Listen to me closely as the story unfolds This could be the saddest story even been told I used to want the house with the biggest pool reminiscing now I just feel like a fool Keep breaking me down, down, down I used to throw the party at the New Year's Eve First one intoxicated, last one to leave Waking up in places that you would never believe Give me back the time, you can keep the memories Keep breaking me down, down, down Every book I've read said that I would meet somebody like you Whenever I was sorry, so sorry for the things I used to do A journal full of numbers that I used to go through (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) all behind me now, all because of you Keep breaking me down, down, down You keep breaking me, you keep breaking me down I don't wanna walk out Don't wanna go down, down, down See there's a door that you can walk through Where there used to be a wall I don't care, it's cool as long as you catch me baby (Catch me when I fall) If there's ever a fall Closer to the breakdown, the closer we get

about

Discovering Morris Mills, the artist….dawn was barely breaking on the horizon, three a.m. in the morning and the notification comes in, and while it is not my habit to open any type of messages, I found my curiosity peaked by the attachment that was included with this random message. The intro alone for Do You Believe In Love from an album titled The Dawn (an interesting coincidence I noted, given the hour in which I was currently listening aforementioned work of art) prompted me to sit up and listen to what was to become an all time favorite, and on constant replay for days to come. Who WAS this artist?! I asked myself, launching into an extensive research for anything by what was clearly a phenomenal artist, I mean, was he a another wanna be Prince?! Or a perfect fusion of Prince and Maxwell?! Whatever the case, he had my attention and listening ears from day one, for this was an artform to be reckoned with, like, who else can really take a soulful funky sound and blend it seamlessly with a powerful rock groove?

Then along comes Revival and there’s just nothing out there in that opening song alone that gets the adrenaline going like the thump thump of a bass guitar syncopated with a drum beat just as fierce, pulling one into that place where emotions without words course through the spirit in a way that finds you rocking with a sound that's undeniably soulful funk and rock groove (again than signature ‘touch’) making one feel as though they are becoming one with a high energy sound and that's just if you are here to jam!

One listen to the highly anticipated album The Revival and the best of all worlds come together in that way that only a "groovy make you wanna dance" sound that I have come to recognize in countless listening’s to his extensive bodies of work and careful researching of his discography, unique to Morris Mills alone and has been known to deliver time and time again. To understand instrumentation and lyricism on a level that connects with the blueprint founded by the greats before him is one thing, but to fuse it all together in a way that is not only a genius blend of funk rock and roll is in itself a treat to the ebb and flow of ones groove on a level that awakens in the process a certain sense of spiritual self, and organically consistent in the albums entirety, from the opening of the main title song Revival with its strong intro building you up in anticipation for something that connects one with a higher power and makes you want to celebrate the truth within the songs message, to the irresistible groove heard in Gone Give, all while setting the tone for a truly unique listening experience.

Taking his labor of love to the next level, Morris Mills captures beautifully the sound that is ahead of its time, transporting one to an era when music was just that, music, embracing, honoring and clearly following in the footsteps of the greats that set the foundation for that sound that is exclusively Morris Mills. The perfect blend of Funk and Rock, two elements that only few creative geniuses have managed to master. From the Protégé album to Revival, the evolution of a promising icon has come to life, and the foundation of a legacy has taken root, it is clear that he is more than just the music and his mastery of the instrument is not in the instrument itself, but it is in the player himself, it’s in the magic of his writing and gift of singing that brings us everything that is definitive of art and timeless sound.
